Vallejo closes city hall due to COVID-19 surge

VALLEJO – Due to a sharp increase in COVID-19 case, Vallejo City Hall and the Vallejo Police Department lobby are closed to the general public, city officials announced this week.

Officials said city hall staff will keep “providing service to the public remotely, just as they did earlier this year during the first closure due to the virus.”

Drop boxes for bills and other city business will be available at the front of Vallejo City Hall, located at 555 Santa Clara St.

Officials said the police department’s records section “will continue to process vehicle releases and deliveries during the lobby closure.” Community members may call the records section at (707) 648-4491 during staffing hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or visit www.vallejopd.net for online services and report requests.

The Community Services Section (CSS) & Code Enforcement office located at 2 Florida St. will also be closed to the public. For property maintenance inquiries, call Code Enforcement at (707) 648-4469. For community services related inquires, call (707) 553-7218. Service needs may also be addressed for both sections by visiting the SeeClickFix platform.

Both city hall and the VPD lobby are expected to re-open in early January.

The closures come during the same time Solano County implemented a state-mandated regional stay-at-home order. California’s regional stay-at-home order is activated when a region’s intensive care unit capacity drops below 15 percent.

“Solano County is experiencing high levels of transmission of COVID-19 at an alarming rate, and our hospitalizations are rising, both of which are indicators that ICU impacts are a given now, not just locally but regionally,” said Bela T. Matyas, M.D., M.P.H., Solano County health officer, in a Wednesday press release from the county. “This time of year poses a special challenge in preventing transmission of COVID-19.  While we may want to gather and celebrate with family and friends, such gatherings can cause spread of this devastating virus to our family and friends, effecting our loved ones and the community.”
