Robert McConnell was elected mayor in November 2020 after serving two terms on the Vallejo City Council in 2011 and 2016. Prior to be elected to the council, McConnell served eight years on the city's planning commission. Due to the city's term limits, McConnell will leave the council when his term ends in January 2025.
