VALLEJO – The Vallejo City Council is expected to confirm the appointment of former Pinole City Manager Andrew Murray as Vallejo’s next permanent city manager at the council meeting on Tuesday, according to a council agenda published Wednesday afternoon.
He will be hired at a salary of $303,000, according to the council agenda.
Councilmember Tina Arriola said that Murray’s experience and knowledge of city government stood out from the other candidates. “We've got a lot of big projects in the pipeline,” she said. “I think he’s ready to take the bull by the horns.”
Arriola said she thought the counsel appreciates Interim City Manager Beverli Marshall’s communicative spirit, and she hopes for the same level of transparency from Murray.
Marshall was appointed interim city manager last month while the council continued to search for a permanent replacement for City Manager Mike Malone, who is retiring at the end of April.
According to Murray’s LinkedIn profile, he conducted research on the drivers of local economic growth as principal economist at the University of California Berkeley from 2001 to 2004. He served as the city performance deputy director in San Francisco from 2007 to 2012, where he analyzed efficiency and effectiveness of city operations.
He then went on to positions as assistant to the city administrator for the City of Oakland, assistant city manager for Pleasant Hill, and most recently as City Manager for the City of Pinole, where he led several city initiatives, including implementation of a new strategic plan, community engagement, economic development, and long-term financial plans.
The City Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the council chambers at Vallejo City Hall at 555 Santa Clara St. Members of the public can participate in person or remotely via Zoom.
