Upcoming Vallejo Events — Maker Faire will celebrate their 20th anniversary on Mare Island

VALLEJO — Maker Faire will mark their 20th anniversary with a three day event at the Mare Island Promenade, where sparks will fly, robots will walk and rockets will launch. This showcase of creativity is a playground for rule-breakers, tinkerers, creators, and “right to repair” rebels. It will feature a wide range of creations, informative presentations and workshops about everything from art, robot and toy making to 3D printing and off-grid radio building. Entertainment will include live music styles from around the world, performance art and theatrical skits. A variety of food vendors will offer meals and snacks throughout the event. The event will begin on Friday with Field Trip Day, when STEAM will come to life with live performances, presentations and hands-on workshops for curious students and young makers. Slightly lower priced tickets are available for the Friday event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with bigger discounts available for student groups of 10 or more.

On Saturday and Sunday the event will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and SF Bay Ferry will provide service between the mainland terminal and Mare Island on Saturday and Sunday, free on select trips.

The annual Greek Village Food Festival at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church on Friday and Saturday will draw people from all over the Bay Area. Enjoy classic gyro, souvlaki, saganaki, calamari rings and Greek fries, Greek salad, and Greek pizza baked in a genuine wood fired oven. If you’re craving something sweet, authentic Greek pastries and desserts include baklava and loukoumades. The hours are Friday from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Free admission and parking.

A free gospel benefit concert will be held at the Revival Center on Friday evening. Love Loud began as a free benefit concert for Minister Roshun Wynne, affectionately known throughout his community as the "Brother of Love." It has become a city-to-city gospel series and a movement: loving people out loud while they can still hear it, and standing with families facing chronic illness. Join churches, gospel artists, performers, families and neighbors for an evening of live gospel music, worship, celebration and love in action. The event will feature Pastor Nathan Justin, Chosen Generation, James and Olevia Williams, Dr. Tia Madison, the cast of "No Room," the Revival Center Worship Team, and a special video message from gospel legend Fred Hammond. 

The Solano Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting of Taqueria El Pelayo’s new location at 2305 Springs Rd. on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. Live music by Banda Escuela de Rancho, DJ music, $2 tacos, and free aguas frescas for the first 100 customers. Come out, show your support for this local business, and celebrate this achievement with great food, music, and community.

The fourth Thursday of the month is coming up, which means poetry in Vallejo.

Poets will share their original poetry at the OZCAT radio open mic during the Art Beat Poetry Hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Listen to the broadcast on KZCT 89.5 FM, or stream online.  Then later on Thursday evening, poets will take to the stage at the Poetry by the Bay open mic event at the Mira Theatre

If you haven’t been to the Zoppé Italian Family Circus at Solano County Fairgrounds, their last series of shows will be Thursday and Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1, 4 and 7 p.m., and Sunday at 1 and 4 p.m.

And the last two performances of Tosca by Giacomo Puccini performed by Verismo Opera at the Mire Theatre will be on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.

8th Annual Friends of the Poor Walk

8th Annual fundraiser where 100% of proceeds are used to help prevent homelessness in Benicia. Nature Hike at Lynch Canyon

This hike will take visitors westward along Middle Valley Trail leading to Prairie Ridge. Expect about a 5 mile hike at a moderate, but even pace over uneven ground. Muddy spots will have cattle prints. There are steep climbs over several hills with the longest at Prairie Ridge. It’s worth it to see the view of the northern San Francisco Bay.

Meet in the parking lot: Parking is $5. Please be prepared to pay by cash or check. Envelopes are in the iron ranger near the main gate.

Just for babies and their grownups! Bring your baby for some cozy, active time on your lap. Baby storytime is designed for meaningful one-on-one interaction between baby and caregiver. We'll have songs, rhymes, a book or two, and plenty of activities for both of you that are developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they start walking. Storytime is followed by some time to stay and play with your baby or talk to other caregivers. This storytime is geared toward ages 0-18 months.

We meet every Tuesday at 5 pm! ¡Nos reunimos todos los martes a las 5! Practice Spanish in a relaxed, welcoming environment! While it's not a formal class, participants will learn collaboratively and occasionally connect with Spanish speakers for conversation practice.
