VALLEJO — Vallejo will kick off Juneteenth celebrations on Thursday, culminating with the annual parade and festival on Saturday. The federal holiday marks the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas on June 19 1865, at the end of the Civil War, ending slavery.

There will also be fun activities for kids and food vendors on site.
On Saturday evening, you can support the Mira Theatre at the Speaking in the Key of Meaning fundraiser. This collaborative performance by Poetry By the Bay and Vallejo Jazz Jam will celebrate the power of words, with readings by former and present Poet Laureates from Vallejo, Benicia, Fairfield and Napa, accompanied by a Vallejo Jazz Jam quartet.
