Upcoming Vallejo Events — August Summer Nights

VALLEJO — It’s August, which will bring the free August Summer Nights festivities to Georgia and Marin Streets in downtown Vallejo every Thursday evening this month. CRSB will headline the inaugural event with their signature blend of island soul, reggae, and pop. Festivities will also include a car show, a beer garden, food trucks and sweets, a kid zone and a dog zone.

Then on Friday evening, Dockside Dazzle at the Mare Island Historic Core will host a live painting exhibition and the unveiling of the sculpture “Farmer the Rigger” by Zulu Heru. This free event will also feature live music, food and drinks from Redwood Empire Whiskey Bar.

On Saturday, the 3rd annual Art of Community Festival will launch its free, month-long celebration of creativity and culture at Mare Island Art Studios with an opening reception for the “Legacy in Color” solo exhibition of the work of Bay Area artist Diana Krevsky. She will give an artist talk at 2 p.m. The exhibit of Krevsky’s colorful, whimsical and thought-provoking paintings and sculptures will be open every Sunday in August from noon to 4 p.m.

Then on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m., the Art of Community will present Art of Community Awards to honor individuals and organizations that make a meaningful impact through art, culture, and community.

Friday’s musical lineup includes a variety of genres.

The last of the free Bands and Brews Summer Concert Series on Friday evening at Blue Rock Springs Park will feature the Viva Santana Show, a powerful Latin rock tribute that celebrates the legendary sound of Santana. Beer and food trucks will be on site. Bring blankets or lawn chairs for the best viewing experience. The gates will open at 5 p.m., the music will begin at 6:30 p.m.

If you prefer hip-hop, help DJ Kenzo celebrate 10 years of sobriety at Northstar Studios on Friday at 7 p.m. Whether you’re sober, sober-curious, or simply want to support an inspiring milestone, everyone is welcome to this free event. Sounds by Zo, Salenie, Cutso, Miles Medina, The Yee Section and DJ Kenzo.

Motown, soul and R&B lovers may prefer to attend the Askari’s Place - Pure Ecstasy event at the Vallejo Museum on Friday at 7 p.m. Michael Nelson of The Best Intentions will bring warmth, feeling, and undeniable soul to the stage, and Vallejo Poet Laureate Jacalyn Evonne will bring words to life with power, rhythm, and truth.

Then later on Friday Dark Solstice III - Vallejo Goth Night will take place at the Odd Fellows Hall, with OZCAT DJ's Dr.G and ImosaicMix, and live music by Moon Cries Blood. There is no cover charge to this 18 and over event.

Another Circus is in town! Circus Caballero will be at the Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Green through Sunday. The performances will include comedy and surprises, with jaw-dropping motorcycle stunts and aerial artists flying above the ring. Weekday shows at 7:30 p.m. Saturday: 1:30, 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday: 3 and 6 p.m.

There are also many things to do outside of Vallejo.

The Benicia Peddlers Fair on Saturday will offer a vibrant mix of vintage finds, timeless antiques, handcrafted goods and food trucks, with live music rounding out the afternoon. The fair will be held on First Street from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

And if you haven’t seen Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park’s production of “Richard III,” they’ll host one of their last free shows of the season at Independence Park in American Canyon on Saturday at 4 p.m.
