VALLEJO — The free Decked Out at The Quarters music festival will be held on Mare Island this Sunday when more than 20 Bay Area bands that span jazz, folk, R&B, and rock will play on the porches on Officer's Row.
The festival also includes local artists, face painters, food vendors, beer, wine, and more. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Bikes and well-behaved pets are allowed.
On Saturday, Celebrate Earth Day at the Earth Daze festival. This year the festival will expand beyond the 300 block of Virginia Street to shops, studios, and gathering spaces throughout downtown Vallejo.
Government agencies, nonprofits and community groups will offer hands-on demonstrations, educational resources, and opportunities for attendees to engage directly with sustainability solutions in an accessible and meaningful way. Also debuting this year is The Ever Wonder Play Zone, featuring creative activities centered around reuse and environmental awareness.
Also in the spirit of Earth Day, the Loma Vista Farm Spring Open House on Saturday will host a plant sale and showcase the farm’s horses, alpacas, pigs, ducks, chickens and rabbits.
You can also tour food forests, native plant and community gardens at the Benicia & Vallejo Annual Demonstration Food Forest Tour on Saturday. Stop by Avant Garden in Benicia or the Global Center for Success on Mare Island to pick up a map.
Or enjoy the natural beauty of the Mare Island Strait and Napa River from the deck of the River Dolphin catamaran on Saturday morning. The river cruise will travel to the south side of Mare island and then into restored wetlands on the Napa River.
Then on Sunday, bring a plant to share or just come to grab some free plants to take home at the Vallejo Plant Swap in the Mira Theatre parking lot. Enjoy live music, free goodies, and a fun, community-focused atmosphere for all ages. Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions you have about your garden and offer tips for plant care.
The Vallejo Symphony will present a free concert to celebrate the re-opening of Hogan Auditorium on Sunday afternoon. The Voices of Verismo Festival Choir will sing Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus. Eliza O'Malley and Salvatore Atti will sing excerpts from Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme. Other concert highlights include Tiffany Austin singing excerpts from Porgy and Bess and Elizabeth Dorman playing Rhapsody in Blue.
Something different is coming to the Empress Marquee Club on Friday night. Mad Youth Presents will push sound and style forward with a mix of alternative, electronic, underground, and genre-bending performances featuring Aizik Ulysses, DJ Pers, Luvr Grl and Hugo.
Two car shows will take place on Saturday. The Spring Madness show will have trucks, vendors, awards, live music and a burnout pit at the Solano County Fairgrounds, and the Carnalito's Customs Car Club - 4th Annual BBQ will bring a full day of family-friendly lowrider culture to Wilson Park.
On Thursday, poets will be at the open mic on OZCAT Radio’s morning Poetry Hour, and in the evening at Poetry by the Bay at the Mira Theatre.
The Mare Island Museum will host a Garage Sale on Friday and Saturday, featuring a wide range of unique and hard-to-find items, including historic artifacts, machinist tools, Navy electronics and radio equipment, hand tools, power tools, furniture, metal cabinets, and more. Whether you're a collector, maker, or just looking for practical finds, there will be something worth browsing.
The Camel Barn Museum in Benicia will be filled with art and music when Carquinez Village hosts its Spring Arts Fundraiser on Sunday afternoon. Entertainment will include music by jazz duo Leo Kavanaugh and Tony Alvis and a dance performance by Son Dé Metzli Folklorico. The curated art exhibition will feature the works of Mary DeShaw, Gay Roche, Marilyn Schaeffer, Kendra Stone and Jack Weaver.
Carquinez Village serves older adults in Benicia and Vallejo through a network of volunteers, services, and programs that support independence, connection, and engagement, and creates a structure that allows people to remain active participants in their communities.
