VALLEJO — A big music festival will take place in Benicia this weekend. The "Local & Live" free music festival on Saturday and Sunday will lead you on a trail of live music down First Street, starting at Saint Paul’s Square at 11 a.m., with the different artists’ sets timed to take you on a musical journey toward the waterfront. Check the schedule to see the 13 artists that will play over the two-day event.
There is always something new to see at the 2nd Friday Art Walk evening event from 5 to 9 p.m. in downtown Vallejo. This Friday, three interesting photo exhibits will open in downtown galleries.
Autonomous Gallery will hold an opening reception for Palestinian journalist Lara Aburamadan’s “Remains a Memory” photo exhibit, which explores how her memories of Gaza city have been transformed by the relentless impact of war.
The McCune Room on the lower floor of the John F. Kennedy Library will host "A Bit of This & That," a mixed media and photography show by Cheryl Ann Shanks & Karl Sutphin.
And a fundraiser for Braid Mission, which provides support and mentorship for youth in foster care, will be held at 725 Marin St., with an exhibit of street art photography by Art KQWST, cocktails by Social Mix and food by Charcuterie & Catering by Camille.
Tree Bed Design will host an artist talk, "Happy Hour," with watercolor artist Kris Goodie, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
You can also enjoy live music over dinner or drinks during Art Walk. Bambino’s will host the Old Souls Blues Experiment and a jam session, and Don Bassey and Friends will play their regular Art Walk gig at Vallejo Brewing Company.
Or if you prefer to hang out outdoors to browse the street vendors, visit the Stinky Cheese popup in front of Anchor Pantry and savor mac n' cheese or grilled cheese sandwiches.
On Saturday night you can boogie down for a good cause at the Humane Society of the North Bay’s '80s Gala FUNdraiser at the Springbrook Masonic Temple. Dance to ‘80s favorites played by Sixteen Scandals, savor the buffet dinner and cocktails, and place a bid in the live auction. Grab your friends, dress in your best 80s gear and come party for the animals!
If classical music is more to your liking, head over to the Mira Theatre on Saturday night for an evening of eclectic and beautiful music at the Verismo Opera Company Fundraiser Showcase Concert. Enjoy works by Azarcon, Bizet, Martini, Massenet, Mozart, Rossini, Richard Strauss, Verdi and more. A raffle with fun prizes will support the opera company, which is now offering free admission. A $30.00 membership will give you advance seating and help support Verismo’s goal to make opera accessible to all.
If you live in Vallejo’s District 4 and haven’t decided who will get your city council vote, you can meet candidate Charles Palmares at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Coal Shed Brewery on Thursday evening, in the last of their Pints with Politicians events.
Tired of seeing trash scattered around Vallejo’s streets and trailways? If you’d like to help, two community cleanup events are happening this weekend.
The Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church will host a South Vallejo Beautification Weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sign up here to choose a date and a cleanup site.
Or team up with Rooted Vallejo to help clean up a segment of the Napa Valley Vine Trail. The group will meet at the intersection of Mini Drive and Broadway on Sunday 9 a.m. and work their way back into town along Broadway Street.

In this show, Lara Aburamadan explores the transformation of memories of home shaped by the relentless impact of war, transitioning from tangible reality to the ethereal realms of daydreams and nostalgia. Having lived in exile for years, Aburamadan is left pondering the uncertain path ahead, questioning the fate of a Gaza that clings to memories of people and places that don't exist anymore.
Lara Aburamadan is a Palestinian visual artist, journalist and founder of Refugee Eye.

A free monthly community arts event! The second Friday Vallejo Art Walk has energized downtown Vallejo since 2014.

Mare Island Bike Ride
We’re heading out to Mare Island on Sunday 10-11. As usual we will meet at The Exchange Vallejo at 10 a.m. and we will roll out at 10:15. We’re going to head up Marin to City Park and then straight down to the island. We will head out to the Mare Island Preserve and those who want to climb the hill can and those who want to chill can at the benches. After our time at the preserve we will wiggle through the island and then head back downtown via the waterfront. As usual we will stay as a group and ride at “Party Pace” Let’s go ride bikes!

In this class, you'll get to tap into your Halloween vibes and create one of these adorable (or spooky? You decide!) ghosts. We'll have loads of colorful glaze options on hand for you to give your ghost its own, unique flare.
