Vallejo school board to name new superintendent on Wednesday

Three months after superintendent Adam Clark left the Vallejo school district to take a similar position in a nearby school district, the Vallejo school board is poised to appoint a new superintendent.

The board is expected to name the new superintendent and approve a contract with the individual following closed session on Wednesday. Additional information about the person wasn’t provided with the board’s agenda.

In early July, Clark announced that he was leaving Vallejo to become superintendent with the Mt. Diablo Unified School District after spending nearly three years in Vallejo.

Mitchell Romao, the district’s chief operations officer, was tapped by the school board to serve as interim superintendent.

As interim superintendent, Romao earns about $1,022 each work day, Adrian Vargas, the district’s chief business official, told JohnGlidden.com in an Aug. 20 email.

The contract is based off the 225 work day calendar and the $230,000 amount Clark received as superintendent.

The board approved the $17,900 contract with McPherson & Jacobson, LLC to conduct a nationwide search for a new superintendent.

The Vallejo City Unified School District Board of Education will meet virtually at 3 p.m., on Wednesday. Members of the public can submit comment(s) on a specific agenda item or during community forum, by emailing suptoffice@vcusd.org. Those wishing to address the school board must include the title and agenda item number in the subject of their email.

The meetings are live streamed on the district’s YouTube page.
