VALLEJO – Vallejo police named two officers who shot and wounded a man who allegedly pointed a pellet gun at them last week.
Vallejo police Officers Daniel Saravia and Himanshu Saini both fired their weapons during the Aug. 29 incident, Vallejo police said in a statement on Friday. Each has been with the department for three years, police said.
The officers had responded to a report of vandalism to a vehicle in progress in the 2000 block of Ascot Parkway, in Blue Rock Village, just after 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

When the officers arrived, they found a man later identified as 24-year-old Alexander Schumann. Schumann walked toward the officers and pointed “what appeared to be a handgun at them,” and the officers opened fire, according to police.
Schumann was wounded in the shooting and transported to a hospital by helicopter and is expected to survive, according to police. The weapon he was holding “appeared to be a pellet/BB gun,” police said.
Vallejo police said that the department would hold a town hall meeting on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at Jesse Bethel High School at 1800 Ascot Parkway.
