VALLEJO – Vallejo City Hall and the Vallejo Housing Authority building across the street were evacuated Monday afternoon due to a bomb threat, according to the city.
The city announced the threat via Facebook at 2:47 p.m. and asked residents to evacuate the area of City Hall at 555 Santa Clara St. and the housing authority building at 200 Georgia St.
City spokesperson Christina Lee sent an email to city employees which said that the city had received the threat by phone and it appeared to originate within city hall.
The Vallejo Police Department and Vallejo Fire Department responded to investigate. The city announced at 4:28 p.m. that the Vallejo Police Department has cleared the bomb threat.
The Vallejo Sister City Commission meeting scheduled for 4:30 p.m. was cancelled because of the bomb threat.
A joint city council and planning commission meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The John F. Kennedy Library, located next to city hall, was also temporarily closed.
This story was updated with information about public meetings scheduled and after the police department cleared the bomb threat.
