VALLEJO — The weather is warming up, and Vino Godfather will reopen their backyard event venue for the season with high energy reggae dance music by the Roots Man Project on Saturday afternoon. This band has shared the stage with reggae legends like The Wailers and Marlon Asher, and promises an afternoon of feel-good positive vibes.
Other notable musical acts coming to town on Saturday night are Latin jazz vocalist Julie Brand, who will return to the stage at the 4th Corner Speakeasy after a 10-year hiatus, and Katie Knipp, who will perform her original, out-of-the-box blues rock at the Empress Theatre.
March 13 is the second Friday of the month, which means a variety of local artists and entertainers will be posted downtown for 2nd Friday Art Walk , with the epicenter of the event on Marin Street between Georgia and Virginia Streets.
Venues along neighboring streets will also be open for Art Walk. Vallejo Art Walk will award a one-time $100 microgrant to the first 25 vending artists who display original creative work and are fully set up by 5 p.m. Email vallejoartwalk@gmail.com for more information.
And to enhance your Art Walk experience, you can step indoors and catch live music while you dine.
Bambino's will host The Breedloves & Friends, who play both originals and unique cover renditions of familiar tunes. And Indie After Dark will host two Bay Area bands at the 4th Corner SpeakEasy, with alternative rock by Down By Dawn and pop-punk by Poser Emo. Dinner by Earl’s BBQ dinner will be available.
The Empress Marquee Club will also be open early for dinner ahead of their brand new monthly dance series, Boogie Nights, hosted by local songstress Ariel Marin, with guest artists James Earley and Alvon Johnson.
Then on Sunday, celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a lunchtime high tea at the Empress Marquee Club, or visit St. Peter's Chapel for a lively afternoon of traditional and modern Irish folk music-sing-along songs at 3 p.m.
Also on Sunday, the Personal Space Gallery will open GLYPH, a new art exhibit that features thirteen artists who draw from an enigmatic lexicon of symbols, and celebrate our innate ability to understand things deeply without having to define them in words. The exhibit will be open on Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment through May 3.

Memoir Book Club: "The Book of Hope" by Jane Goodall.
In this urgent book, Jane Goodall, one of the world's most famous naturalists, and Douglas Abrams, the internationally bestselling co-author of The Book of Joy, explore through intimate and thought-provoking dialogue one of the most sought after and least understood elements of human nature: hope. While discussing the experiences that shaped her discoveries and beliefs, Goodall tells the story of how she became a messenger of hope, from living through World War II to her years in Gombe to realizing she had to leave the forest to travel the world in her role as an advocate for environmental justice. And for the first time, she shares her profound revelations about her next, and perhaps final, adventure. There is still hope, and this book will help guide us to it.

This intuitive language manifests through a varied approach to material translation that underscores, and celebrates, our innate ability to understand things deeply without having to define them in words.
