VALLEJO — Vallejo’s darker history of crimes, hauntings, conspiracies and scandals will be explored at an adults-only talk, Vallejo Unhinged, which will take place at the Vallejo Museum on Friday evening. The event will be presented by the museum’s curator and project manager Paul Goodrum and will repeat on March 14.
Another event that is not recommended for children is the Blackbook Comedy show at Bambino’s Restaurant on Sunday night. Their prior free comedy shows at Bambino’s during dinnertime were suitable for all ages, but their ticketed monthly Sunday night shows will be uncensored. Check them out if you’ll enjoy raunchy laughter at a venue with a full bar and Italian-style cuisine. Children are not prohibited from this show, but Blackbook Comedy warns that they are not responsible for what the kids may hear.
And the Hidden Fantasea Drag Show at the Redwood Empire Whiskey Bar on Friday evening is also a 21 and over event. This show will feature a variety of drag king artists, headlined by Pressure K, known for smooth performances that combine classic Atlanta rap with sultry R&B hits. Arrive early at 5:30 p.m. for a meet and greet and photo op with Pressure K.
Then on Saturday evening the Vallejo Museum will host a Sock Hop Fundraiser, with DJ music, dancing, drinks and a light buffet. Do you remember Peggy Sue? Can you rock around the clock? Come have fun and support the museum, even if you don’t want to dance!
Are you curious about cultural art? Centenarian Dorothy Herger will be present at the Curiosities opening reception on Sunday afternoon at Mare Island Art Studios and will give a talk at 2 p.m. The exhibit features a selection of art and artifacts, including baskets, masks and ceremonial objects, that Herger gathered over a lifetime of world travel, as well as her own ceramic works. While you are there you can also check out the adjacent exhibit, In Her Power, a celebration of women artists. Both shows will be open on Sunday afternoons through the end of March.
This is the closing weekend for Verismo Opera’s double bill, Dido and Aeneas by Purcell and Pagliacci by Leoncavallo at the Mira Theatre. The operas will be performed on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Verismo Opera is offering free admission, supported by paid memberships, to make this art form available to all.
