VALLEJO — The Garden Bros Circus - Fun Factory is coming to Solano County Fairgrounds. The Fun Factory is a traditional masterpiece of circus arts, humor and breathtaking acrobatics where humans go wild. This show is a delightful explosion of colors, comedy, and crazy contraptions perfect for the whole family. The circus will perform in the afternoons and evenings from Thursday through Sunday, with additional matinee shows on Saturday and Sunday.
The Vallejo Jazz Festival that was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday on the waterfront has been canceled, but you can still enjoy other jazz shows happening around town.
The Paul Hanson Quartet will perform at the Empress Marquee Club on Thursday evening. Hanson is an internationally recognized jazz bassoonist who has taken the instrument far beyond the classical stage and into jazz, funk, fusion, world music, and improvisation.
Then Saturday evening will bring a choice of four different jazz shows.
Joyce Grant will sing at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Ferry Taproom. Grant’s shows blend jazz, blues, country western, Rhythm and Blues, and funk. The Alex So Quartet, known for its dynamic performances of original and classic jazz, will play at Bambino's, and saxophonist Stabe Wilson will play smooth jazz, soulful R&B and deep Bay Area groove at the Empress Marquee Club. And Blue Cinema’s rockin’ fusion of rock and modal jazz will be served up at 4th Corner Speakeasy.
For musicians, the Valleo Jazz Jam will take place at the Mira Theatre on Saturday at noon. Musicians of all ages, genders and levels are welcome. And while it hasn’t been posted yet on the Empress website, word is that the Monday Jazz Jam is on at the Marquee Club. The venue will open for dinner at 6 p.m. and the music will start at 7. The jam is a welcoming, musician-friendly setting where players can sit in, and listeners can enjoy a relaxed club atmosphere.
Live music in Vallejo is not limited to jazz.
Rapper Mac Mall will invade the stage at Noble Cinema Studios on Saturday night, and rocking guitarist Stef Burns will make his annual summertime return to Vino Godfather on Sunday afternoon.
For family fun, kids and their grownups will enjoy Parks N' Rex Day at Children’s Wonderland on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., when the park will transform into a prehistoric playground with roaring dinosaurs and hands-on activities.
Plus, the Black Men’s Chess League will present a Cheers to Chess event at Mare Island Co. Coal Shed Brewery on Saturday from 4 to 9 p.m. The league has had success introducing the game of chess to kids and families in Oakland, and is now expanding their program into the North Bay. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned player looking for a challenge, the league will have instructions and boards ready for all skill levels. Donations to support the league's youth programs will be appreciated, but not required.
History buffs and cryptography fans alike may want to attend the upcoming Speaker Series: Cracking the Enigma - The Secret Battlefield of WW2 at St.Peter's Chapel on Sunday afternoon. Author Ralph Simpson will discuss over 2000 years of cipher evolution, starting with Julius Caesar and continuing to today with modern public key cryptography.
And one of many events outside of Vallejo that may be worth a short drive is Crockett’s 18th Annual Sugartown Festival on Sunday, from 11 a.m to 6 p.m. in the heart of historic Crockett. The intersection of Rolph and Pomona Streets will become a vibrant outdoor destination featuring live music, artisan vendors, delicious food, and family-friendly entertainment.

Join us for the 18th Annual Sugartown Festival in the heart of historic Crockett, as Rolph Street at Pomona Street transforms into a vibrant outdoor celebration of live music, artisan vendors, food vendors beer garden and family-friendly entertainment.
