VALLEJO — A variety of musical events will take place in and around Vallejo this week, from hip-hop to jazz to choral music.
Rappin' 4-Tay, a hip-hop artist from San Francisco, will invade Noble Cinema Studios on Saturday night as part of their Respect The Legends series of hip-hop and rap shows.
Or if you prefer to listen to smooth, contemporary jazz, check out Sizzle at the 4th Corner Speakeasy on Saturday night for their renditions of Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and other jazz greats.
The Vallejo Choral Society will perform at both St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Benicia on Saturday evening and at the Springbrook Masonic Temple in Vallejo on Sunday afternoon. The season finale concert, titled “In the Sun that is Young Once Only,” features John Corigliano’s “Fern Hill,” a choral interpretation of a Dylan Thomas poem that explores childhood wonder, innocence, and the passage of time.
French electronic music producer CloZee will perform at the Ruins in American Canyon on Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m.
At the Benicia Clock Tower on Monday evening, the Jazz O'Clock show will feature two internationally acclaimed artists: Italian guitar virtuoso Peppino D'Agostino with special guest two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Mads Tolling.
Theater buffs may enjoy the upcoming production of Madagascar Jr by On the Fringe Jr youth theater, which will run at the Odd Fellows Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, with a matinee show on Saturday. The play is based on an animated motion picture by DreamWorks that follows a group of animal friends who escape from New York’s Central Park Zoo.
Vallejo art galleries also have much to offer this week.
Ethnic Notions Fine Art Gallery & Multicultural Bookstore will celebrate Miles Davis' 100th Birthday with art, music, literature, and ambiance inspired by Davis on Friday afternoon.
Then on Friday evening, Autonomous Gallery in downtown Vallejo will host a queer mixer and closing reception for the Under Your Gaze solo exhibition by trans non-binary Vallejo artist Kris Goodie. The exhibit features Goodie’s intimate watercolor portraits that celebrate queer and gender non-conforming lives.
And on Sunday afternoon, Personal Space gallery will host an opening reception for their Giant Steps Art Exhibition. The show features nine ceramic artists who push the medium beyond traditional boundaries of the medium.
If you haven’t visited Mare Island Art Studios yet this month, this is the closing weekend for their Spring Show and the solo exhibit by Donna Wallace Cohen. The gallery will be open on Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.
The fourth Thursday of the month is a great day for poetry, with the OZCAT Poetry Hour open mic hosted by former Vallejo poet Laureate Kathleen Herrmann and former Benicia Poet Laureate Tom Stanton. The show will begin at 10:30 a.m. and can be heard by live streaming or on OZCAT radio at 89.5 FM.
Then later on Thursday evening, the Poetry by the Bay open mic will return to the Mira Theater.

Giant Steps Art Exhibition - Opening Reception
Giant Steps brings together artists who push ceramics beyond the traditional boundaries of the medium, using clay as one element within broader conceptual frameworks. The Vallejo Choral Society closes its season with a program featuring John Corigliano’s Fern Hill — a choral setting of Dylan Thomas’s poem on childhood and time — and the world premiere of Aux Arbres by Christopher Martin, commissioned by the VCS. Artistic Director Julia Morris conducts the VCS Symphonic and Chamber Choirs with pianist Paul Caccamo.

Jazz O'Clock at the Clock Tower - 6 PM PT
An evening of acoustic guitar and violin featuring Italian guitar virtuoso Peppino D’Agostino and special guest, two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Mads Tolling. Together they perform original compositions alongside works by Django Reinhardt, Astor Piazzolla, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder. D’Agostino is widely regarded as one of today’s leading acoustic guitarists — named among Guitar Player Magazine’s 50 greatest acoustic guitarists of all time — and Tolling is a former member of the Turtle Island Quartet and currently performs with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros. Presented by Benicia Rec and the Benicia Performing Arts Foundation.
