VALLEJO – A beaming LaRussell performed for a packed block in downtown Vallejo on Thursday, headlining the last August Summer Nights festival for this year.
LaRussell was obviously thrilled to be performing at the event in his hometown. The prolific hip-hop artist who has recorded 32 albums over the last six years performs regularly at his childhood Vallejo home, which he has adapted into an outdoor venue.
On Thursday, he performed some of his own songs and hits by another famous Vallejo rapper, Mac Dre, as the crowd sang along.

"We should be doing this every quarter," LaRussell said, noting that he'd wanted to perform in downtown Vallejo for a long time.
"I've got two shows this weekend, and I'm giving you all of my voice," he said.
LaRussell performed during the city's August Summer Nights events, which were resurrected after a long hiatus last year. The events take place every Thursday evening in August and feature a variety of musical performances, food trucks and street vendors on several closed city blocks.

The events, organized by the Vallejo Main Street group, are expected to continue next year.
