VALLEJO — On Saturday, the daylong Vallejo Festival will take place on the Barbara Kondylis Waterfront Green. The event raises funds for local nonprofits with attractions that include a splash chair, a ducky derby, disc golf, a car show and a whaleboat regatta.
The Vallejo Festival is a shortened version of the Vallejo Waterfront Weekend festival that had been on the first weekend in October since 2014. This year it nearly didn’t happen, and was condensed to Saturday-only and dubbed Vallejo Festival. However, the festival’s footprint will be expanded with the closure of Mare Island Way between Capitol and Georgia Streets to make more room for attractions.
The Splash Chair is sure to be a hit this year. The prominent public figures to be dunked include several Vallejo City Council members, Vallejo City Manager Andrew Murray, Vallejo Police Chief Jason Ta, Solano County Supervisor Cassandra James, Vallejo Seaweed General Manager Mark Walter, Waterfront Weekend organizer Jon Riley and former City Council member and Vallejo Main Street President Pippin Dew.
Wednesday is Solano Community Foundation’s “Live Solano Give Solano” 24 hour day of giving to support over 150 local nonprofits and community based organizations (including the Vallejo Sun). The premise of this fundraiser is that giving locally creates direct, visible impact in your own community while offering meaningful engagement opportunities. Visit the Live Solano Give Solano website before midnight to participate.
Then on Wednesday evening, Fresh Air Vallejo will launch EJ4Vallejo at the Norman C. King Community Center. EJ4Vallejo is a community-driven effort to bring environmental justice to the heart of Vallejo. This event will be about sharing stories, building solutions, and making sure everyone in the community has a voice in creating a healthier, more equitable future. Dinner will be provided for all attendees with a free advance registration.
Mare Island Art Studios will celebrate the addition of two new artists to their collective on Saturday afternoon, with an opening reception for the monthlong New Kids on the Block gallery show. The show will feature a cross section of paintings, sculptures and ceramics by those two artists, Susan Noll and Rosalyn Parhams. The show is open to the public and free, and will also be open every Sunday afternoon during the month of October.
Live music this week begins on Wednesday evening with blues guitarist/vocalist and songwriter Nathan James at the Empress Marquee Club. If you’re still in the mood for live music after the Marquee Club closes, meander over to the Townhouse Cocktail lounge for their weekly open mic event.
Then on Friday Night, the 4th Corner Jam Night open mic will take place at the 4th Corner Speakeasy in the Red Men’s Hall.

Or on Saturday evening you can catch the eclectic hip-hop music of DaeShawn Forrest at Noble Cinema Studios. Later into Saturday night, the Odd Fellows Hall will host a Waterfront Weekend Afterparty with Rock Candy’s ‘80s dance rock, and the Voltones surfadelic sounds..
On Sunday afternoon, the DonGato Band will play sophisticated Latin rhythms at Vino Godfather. Then on Monday evening the Townhouse Ramblers will return to the Townhouse after taking a short break, for an evening of Americana, folk, country, and blues.
If you’re looking for comedy, Bambino’s will host Blackbook Comedy’s family friendly stand-up comedy show on Tuesday evening.

Live Solano Give Solano
Investing in local nonprofits creates direct, visible impact in your own community while offering meaningful engagement opportunities. You can see firsthand how your contribution helps - whether it's a food bank serving neighbors, youth programs keeping kids safe, or environmental groups improving local spaces. Local organizations often operate more efficiently with lower overhead costs, and they understand community-specific needs that larger organizations might miss. This targeted approach typically produces more effective solutions to local challenges. Beyond the immediate impact, local nonprofit investment builds valuable community connections and networks.

He immersed himself in the blues as a teenager and joined blues legend James Harman's band by the age of 19. With Harman, he toured all over the USA learning and playing the blues right where it came from before starting his own solo career. Nathan quickly fell in love with all of the traditions of roots American music and has done his homework in styles ranging from pre-war rural piedmont and delta blues, to big city rhythm & blues to soul and country.
