VALLEJO — The Vallejo Ferry Fest will be held at the Mare Island Historic Core on Saturday. This free celebration will feature live music, food, a beer garden, a kid zone and local nonprofit vendors. People who RSVP online will be entered in a chance to win a raffle prize. Parking is limited, so the San Francisco Bay Ferry will provide free ferry shuttle service between downtown Vallejo and Mare Island for event attendees
Meanwhile at the nearby Mare Island Promenade, a Sea Chantey Sing will offer two gathering places for singing – in the hold of the historic ship the Thayer, and under the eves of the historic Coal Sheds. Instruments are encouraged in the Coal Shed location, amateurs welcome!
A different kind of circus is coming to town! Cirque Italia will host a brand-new show for a mature audience at the Solano County Fairgrounds Friday through Monday evenings, with an additional nighttime show on Saturday. Paranormal Cirque will combine theater, circus, and cabaret to tell an innovative horror story that features different shades of sexy. No one under the age of 13 will be admitted, and guests ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult.
Or for a more tame experience at the Fairgrounds, attend the Exotic Bird Mart & Expo trade show for bird lovers on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Live music offerings at the Empress Marquee Club this week will be blues singer Tia Carroll on Wednesday and The Drifting Cowboys will play honky-tonk Western swing on Thursday.
Then on Friday, R&B-pop singer-songwriter Ben Cole will play at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Coalshed Brewery, and hip-hop artist KGodd will be at Chris’ Club.
On Saturday night, Blue Cinema will play a fusion of rock, jazz and hip-hop at the 4th Corner Speakeasy, and Northstar Studios will host three sets of hip-hop at Mix Exchange 7.
Wall to wall poetry events will celebrate National Poetry Month on Saturday, beginning with the new I Need a Mic - Open Mic hosted by Ray Davis at noon at City Arts Gallery.
Then at 2 p.m, the Holograph Poetry Reading will take place at the Red Men's Hall. This event will be hosted by Vallejo Poet Laureate Erik Manuel Soto and feature readings by Gillian Conoley, Eli Coyle, Courtney Cliften, Jacalyn Eyvonne, Oswaldo Vargas and David Hakim.
Monday evening will be the last time the Townhouse Ramblers play at the Townhouse Cocktail Lounge, but the same group of musicians will be performing at Vallejo Brewing Company during future 2nd Friday Art Walks.
Next Wednesday is Earth Day but there are some early opportunities to roll up your sleeves to help clean up Vallejo’s waterways.
Vallejo Watershed Alliance will host a cleanup of the Blue Rock Springs Creek on Saturday morning in conjunction with the Solano Resource Conservation District. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome. Tools, buckets, water and refreshments will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes, a hat, sunscreen, and gloves. Park for free at Wardlaw Dog Park
Or on Sunday morning, join Rooted Vallejo and Vallejo Run Club volunteers at Sunshine Smoothies and help clean up the Napa Valley Vine Trail where it runs along the Mare Island Strait wetlands and Wilson Avenue.
If it’s your own house that needs a cleanup, Vallejo residents can take advantage of the city’s Free Dump Day on Saturday morning at 100 Solano Ave.
Community benefit organizations will be out in full force this week, beginning with the Rise Vallejo Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Family Carnival on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., which will celebrate the reopening of the former Beverly Hills Elementary School as the Rise Vallejo Early Learning Center with a fun-filled carnival.
Then beginning at noon on Saturday, a Community Giveback Celebration will be held at Noble Cinema Studios. This event will feature local food vendors, a hands-on cake bar experience, music, and activities for kids. Nonprofits and resource organizations will be present to support families, including Meals On Wheels, Safequest Solano, WatchMeGrow, Children’s Choice Dental Care, and Medi-Cal/CalFresh.
Then on Sunday, a Community Bike Fair will be held at Dan Mini Elementary School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your bike to participate in the Bike Rodeo skills course. Kids’ bikes will be available to borrow if your child does not have their own, and a limited supply of free helmets will be given away.
And on Sunday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Revival Center Ministries will give away men & women's clothing, coats and hygiene products and groceries at their Love in Action event.
Over in Benicia, the Benicia Theatre Group will present the Neil Simon comedy Rumors at the Historic BDES Hall. Showtimes will be on Friday and Saturday nights and a Sunday matinee.

Benicia Classic Car Show
The Benicia High School Band Boosters will present the 31st Annual Benicia Classic Car Show. This event is the biggest fundraiser to support the high school marching band, color guard, jazz, and concert music programs. The show displays American-made 1989 and earlier vehicles - we expect to show 300 cars. The picnic-like event usually draws 5,000 spectators. There will be oldies-type music, silent auction, prizes, and awards as well as our own high school traveling musicians. Spectator attendance is free. We have about 300 Pre-1990 American cars on display, a vendors row with food and merchandise for sale, a beer and wine garden, and 50's and 60's music provided.

Campanelli Youth Chorus
The youth chorus class offers an enriching music education and performance experience to school-age children. The class empowers students to find their voice and develop an appreciation for singing and its power to lift the human spirit. Students gain a foundation in the choral arts, including musicianship, sight singing, and pitch and vocal training. The class is open to children ages 7 through 17 throughout Vallejo and surrounding communities, and no audition or previous music experience is required. Drop-ins are welcome.
