VALLEJO — A comic theater production will come to Vallejo on Friday, when Bay Area Stage Theatre hosts "Bullshot Crummond," presented by guest theater troupe Silver Moon Theatre from Sonoma.
The comic parody of low-budget 1930s detective movies typifies British heroism at its dumbest. The play is packed with absurd heroics, rapid-fire costume changes, theatrical magic, and over-the-top characters. It will run on Fridays at 8 p.m. and on Saturdays at 3 and 8 p.m through Jan. 31
Live music around town this week begins at the Empress Marquee Club on Wednesday evening, with Japanese rhythm-and-blues singer and guitarist Takezo Takeda, followed on Thursday evening by Baxter Robertson & The California Psychics who blend roots rock, Americana, and subtle psych-leaning textures into their music.
Then on Friday evening, the band Osito will play alternative rock at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Coal Shed Brewery.
Saturday evening offers a variety of music styles.
You can catch Vallejo favorite Joyce Grant’s blend of jazz, blues, country western, rhythm and blues, and funk at Mare Island Brewing Co. Ferry Taproom.
Or you attend the community-driven DJ showcase at the Northstar Studios Mix Exchange. Expect live DJ sets, genre-blending mixes, and an intimate warehouse vibe where the music is the main focus.
If classic rock is your thing, the R50 Rush Tribute on Saturday night at the Empress Theatre might fit the bill. R50 recreates the sound, precision, and energy of Rush with jaw-dropping accuracy.
And finally on Sunday afternoon, the Vallejo Symphony will perform An Afternoon of Filipino Art Songs and Favorite Arias at Riverbank. Be forewarned that this event may be sold out.
The monthly Poetry by the Bay open mic event will return to Mira Theatre on Thursday evening, after their fourth-Thursday event collided with November and December holidays. Enjoy live spoken word poetry from bay area poets, and perhaps an appearance by Vallejo’s new poet lauraeate.
Another fun monthly event is coming up on Saturday night, when Ava LaShay will host the Serve it to ‘Em Saturdays drag show at the Townhouse Cocktail Lounge with Mia Fierce and Avery Night.
Civic-minded Vallejoans may find themselves in a quandary on Thursday, when two separate community meetings that involve the health of the waterfront will take place at 6:30 p.m.
The Solano Bayshore Resiliency Project will host an online community meeting about their regional effort to protect people, neighborhoods, infrastructure, and natural areas from sea level rise, and the city of Vallejo will host the first of two Help Shape the Vallejo Waterfront community workshops at the John F. Kennedy Library Vallejo Room at the same time.
The city is requesting community input to guide and prioritize waterfront improvements, and to identify locations for new planting and irrigation upgrades. A second community workshop will be held over Zoom on Monday, Jan. 26.
This is only a highlight of the many things to do in and around Vallejo. Scroll down the list below to find more live music and creative and recreational activities. Check our events page for an even more comprehensive listing of upcoming events and late-breaking updates.

His voice carries grit, warmth, and vulnerability, shaped by years of late-night sets, small clubs, big stages, and a life fully committed to the music. Every note feels earned. Every lyric rings true. There is something rare and powerful about hearing the blues expressed through a life that bridges cultures. Alibi Bookshop January Book Club: "The Measure" by Nikki Erlick
We're starting 2026 off with Nikki Erlick's "The Measure." "It seems like any other day. You wake up, pour a cup of coffee, and head out. But today, when you open your front door, waiting for you is a small wooden box. This box holds your fate inside: the answer to the exact number of years you will live. From suburban doorsteps to desert tents, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is thrust into a collective frenzy. Where did these boxes come from? What do they mean? Is there truth to what they promise? As society comes together and pulls apart, everyone faces the same shocking choice: Do they wish to know how long they’ll live? And, if so, what will they do with that knowledge? The Measure charts the dawn of this new world through an unforgettable cast of characters whose decisions and fates interweave with one another: best friends whose dreams are forever entwined, pen pals finding refuge in the unknown, a couple who thought they didn’t have to rush, a doctor who cannot save himself, and a politician whose box becomes the powder keg that ultimately changes everything. Enchanting and deeply uplifting, The Measure is a sweeping, ambitious, and invigorating story about family, friendship, hope, and destiny that encourages us to live life to the fullest."
