VALLEJO — Some fun activities for kids are coming up this weekend.
The annual Fishing In The City event will take place at Lake Chabot in Dan Foley Park on Saturday morning. Learn the basics of fishing, including casting, tying knots, baiting a hook, and fishing safety and ethics. All fishing tackle will be provided. Participants must pre-register for the event, be accompanied by an adult, and arrive no later than 9 a.m.
The International KidsNFilm Festival can be streamed for free from Friday through Sunday, with youth-centered short films, features, animations, and documentaries created for children, teens, and families from over 40 countries. Brought to you by Vallejo Poet Laureate Emerita Jacalyn Eyvonne, KidsNFilm highlights stories that spark imagination, encourage empathy, and celebrate diverse cultures and voices from around the world.
Musical offerings begin this week at the Empress Marquee Club, with Mississippi bluesman Johnny Rawls on Wednesday evening, and Stereo Bounce’s blend of funk, pop, soul, R&B and dance-floor classics on Thursday evening.
Then on Saturday afternoon, Soul'd Out Band will play all your favorite top 40 hits at Vino Godfather. A catered lunch menu by Lasagna con Amore will be available for additional enjoyment.
Saturday night will bring two hip-hop events to Vallejo.
Northstar Studios will host the Northstar Mix Exchange 6, a gathering designed to celebrate community and the power of music. Attendees can expect a night filled with dynamic DJ performances and an inclusive vibe.
And Shad Viciouz aka Shadow will celebrate the release of his new album, “AUTHENTIC: The Book Of Shadow” at Noble Cinema Studios.
Then on Sunday, local favorite blues guitarist Alvon Johnson will play at the Brunch and Blues event at the Empress Marquee Club. Brunch will begin at 11 a.m., and Johnson will take the stage at 2 p.m. with expressive guitar work and rich vocals in a style that blends classic electric blues with touches of jazz, soul, and R&B.
Two DEI events will be held at the Vallejo Museum on Saturday.
The Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation on Saturday afternoon is an interactive exercise that explores how 13 historical federal policies created structural inequalities that persist in the United States today. This free event is hosted by United in Grace Lutheran Church of Vallejo and the NAACP Vallejo Branch No. 1081.
Then on Saturday evening the Moving Forward Together - Living History Speaker Series panel discussion will celebrate Women’s History Month, and spotlight women educating and inspiring generations.
Some worthwhile events will take place outside of Vallejo city limits.
A vintage sale fundraiser for the Perfect Catch cat rescue organization will be hosted by Brady Thomas Photography at the Historic Benicia Arsenal on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shop for vintage and art deco decor and enjoy wine from Vallejo Cellars with other cat lovers and help provide essential medical care and food for rescue cats.
And later on Saturday, take your daughter out for a night of dancing to a live orchestra and vocal artist Jeff Wessman at The Coach Sarna 1st Annual "Come Fly with Me Father-Daughter Dance" at the Benicia Clock Tower.

Curiosities – Dorothy Ann Herger
Curiosities presents a selection of art and artifacts gathered over a lifetime of world travel. Spanning continents including Africa, Asia, and South America, the exhibition features baskets, masks, ceremonial objects, and Dorothy Herger’s own ceramic works. Together, these pieces form a deeply personal collection shaped by curiosity, movement, and care.

Guys and Dolls
Guys and Dolls, considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy, is rolling the dice this March at Benicia High School! Join the guys and dolls in 1948’s New York City as gambler Nathan Detroit tries to find the cash to set up the biggest craps game in town! In addition to songs like "Luck Be a Lady Tonight" and "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat", audiences will enjoy live music by the Benicia High School Orchestra! “Guys and Dolls” is suitable for all ages, so bring the family, a date, or your friends and neighbors, and enjoy the show!

Linda Fleming: A Library of Ideas - Artist Reception
A Library of Ideas showcases the work of Linda Fleming, an American sculptor known for intricate drawings and airy, lattice-like constructions that shift with light and shadow. Featuring maquettes, three-dimensional drawings made of wood and paperboard, the exhibition offers insight into Fleming’s creative process, tracing the evolution of ideas from studio models to monumental outdoor sculptures. These works explore structure, geometry, perception, and the poetics of space, revealing how thought, history, and the everyday intersect in forms that feel both intimate and expansive.

Sustainable Solano: Teen Cooking Camp + Farm Field Trip
In this week-long, hands-on cooking camp, teens will learn about knife skills, kitchen safety and basic cooking methods while making a variety of tasty recipes for lunch. Recipes incorporate seasonal produce and may include stir-fries, soups, salads, pasta, tacos, or other dishes depending on the group’s preferences. One camp day will be a farm field trip, where students can learn more about how food is grown and participate in a hands-on activity on the farm. Aprons and all cooking supplies will be provided. Participants should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes; have long hair tied back (hat/bandana optional); no long/fake nails and no dangling jewelry. Instructor: Chef Stephanie Jordan, Local Food Program Manager at Sustainable Solano.

Baby Bounce
Just for babies and their grownups! Bring your baby for some cozy, active time on your lap. Baby storytime is designed for meaningful one-on-one interaction between baby and caregiver. We'll have songs, rhymes, a book or two, and plenty of activities for both of you that are developmentally appropriate for children from birth to when they start walking. Storytime is followed by some time to stay and play with your baby or talk to other caregivers. This storytime is geared toward ages 0-18 months.

Beginner Sewing Class for Teens
Make yourself a scrunchie (or a few) in this beginner-friendly sewing program. We will be providing all materials, and machines but if you already have any fabric you want to use, please feel free to bring it. Provided fabric consists of stable wovens such as quilting cotton. Due to a limited number of sewing machines available at the library, registration is required. If you have your own machine you would like to bring, please let us know so we can set up the room properly to accommodate you. If you are a kid interested in this program, we will be hosting a kid's version for ages 10-12 on March 25th !

City Council meetings are hybrid in-person and on Zoom. Agendas can be viewed on the City Agendas & Videos webpage and are posted a minimum of 72 hours in advance for regular meetings and 24 hours in advance for special meetings.
There will be a video link at the left of the agenda page once the meeting begins. This will also serve as a future archive of the meeting. To participate remotely, use the direct Zoom link found in the first paragraph of the agenda window, on the second tab. City Council meetings are also broadcast on Vallejo’s cable channel, VCAT.
