VALLEJO — Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park returns to Hanns Park this weekend with free performances of the pastoral comedy “As You Like It” on Saturday and Sunday. Witty words and romance play out as cases of mistaken identity cause comic confusion. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase, but no chairs will be provided. Bring a blanket or low chair to sit on.
The troupe will take the show on the road around the Bay Area in early August, and return to Vallejo for fundraiser performances at Vino Godfather on Aug. 15 and 16.
Beat Poet Laureate Mark Lipman is touring the U.S. and Canada in his bus named "Furtherer" and will stop at Alibi Bookshop for “Vagabond Caravan” on Wednesday. He will read his poetry and talk about his "Furtherer" adventures, alongside readings by local poets D.L. Lang, Nina Serrano and others who step up to the open mic.
Also on Wednesday evening, local poets will begin reading at the monthly Poetry by the Bay event at Mira Theatre.
Then on Thursday morning, the Art Beat Poetry hour will feature live recitations by local poets on OZCAT radio. The station’s radio broadcast equipment is currently offline, but they’re still streaming online.
The poetic events will culminate with “A Decade of Poetic Unity: Celebrating Vallejo's Poets Laureate” at the Vallejo Museum on Saturday afternoon. Marking ten years since the appointment of Vallejo’s first Poet Laureate Genea Brice in 2015, this celebration will honor the legacy and ongoing contributions of our city’s poet laureates, Jeremy Snyder and D.L. Lang, and our current co-poet laureates, Jacalyn Eyvonne and Kathleen Herrmann.
Last call for baseball – the Vallejo Seaweed’s final home game will take place at Wilson Park on Friday evening when they battle the Bakersfield Train Robbers.
The results of the Vallejo Center for the Arts 2025 Summer Camp will be on display on Saturday at “The Magical Power of Art and Music” with children’s art exhibition at Temple Art Lofts from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a children’s play at the adjacent Empress Theatre from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
For music, many of the usual suspects are back - Joyce Grant will be at the Ferry Taproom, the Bryan Girard Jazz Trio will perform dinnertime shows at Manny’s Steakhouse on Saturday, and Beatles cover band Hey Jude will be at Vino Godfather on Sunday afternoon.
A less usual show will be the Odd Fellows Music Festival, running from 2 p.m. until late into Saturday night at the Odd Fellows Hall. The punk, metal and grunge lineup includes the bands PTYL vs Demoncast, Butchered Hens, Obscura, Swamp Thing, Butterphunk and Black Crow King, with more to be announced.
RBL Posse’s 30 Year Anniversary celebration will take place at Noble Cinema Studios’ back yard on Saturday evening. They’ll have a car show, kid’s activities and food vendors, as well as hip-hop artists from around the bay area.
It may be worth it to venture outside of Vallejo to attend the Benicia Waterfront Rocks Weekend at the Benicia Waterfront at First Street Green, happening on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be lots of delicious food, sumptuous sweets, micro brews and fine wine, a new Spa Pavilion with yoga and spa specials, and bounce houses and bubbles for the kids. Special features on Sunday will be a view of the Sailboat Regatta, and a little train ride that will follow a track laid in 1902.
Saturday’s musical lineup features Carolyn Wonderland, Super Diamond and Eric Lindell. Sunday performers will be Lachy Doley, Pablo Cruise and Ally Venable.
These are just some highlights of upcoming events in Vallejo. Scroll down the list below for more live music, theater, drag shows, recreation and community events, and be sure to check our events page for late-breaking updates, artist workshops and kids’ activities.
