VALLEJO — The Pestevol Punk Festival will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall in downtown Vallejo on Saturday night, featuring classic northern California punk acts The Freak Accident, Lost Puppy Forever, XOX, Vallejo’s own Ajar. Also in the lineup are interdisciplinary musician and river mermaid Venus Unisex, psychedelic electric guitarist Black Sunrise and the accordion player Noreiarain with support from DJ Mister Colin. The show is open to all ages with a $10 cover charge.
The work of Vallejo-based Filipino-American artist Niki Toney will be on display at Wednesday evening’s Pista Pilsner Unveiling at the Mare Island Brewing Co. Coal Shed Brewery. Toney designed the custom Pista Pilsner label that celebrates the 40th year of Vallejo’s Pista Sa Nayon festival, which will be held in front of the Coal Sheds in June.
Bay Area Stage Theatre will hold auditions for the Broadway version of Little Shop of Horrors Saturday through Monday. The nonprofit community theater asks that applicants bring 32 bars of their best song and a dark sense of humor. Rehearsals will begin in August and the show will run on weekends through October.
Several opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation are coming up this week.
A new Vallejo hiking club will hold a family-friendly 90 minute inaugural hike along the San Pablo Bay Hiking Trail on Mare Island on Saturday morning. This will be the first of a series of monthly hikes to celebrate Vallejo’s green spaces and to introduce some less well-known areas to the community.
Also on Saturday morning, the monthly Lynch Canyon Nature Hike will take place at the open space between Vallejo and Fairfield. The steep climb to Prairie Ridge is worth the view of the northern San Francisco Bay.
Then on Sunday morning, V-Town Bikes will host a leisurely paced group bike ride from The Exchange in downtown Vallejo, across the Carquinez bridge and into Crockett, with a stop for a bite at Lucia's Craft Sandwich before heading back.
And as always, the Vallejo Run Club meets at the Ferry Terminal on Mare Island Way every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning.
If you’re in the mood for something less vigorous, the Paint, Sip and Smoke Night at Noble Cinema Studios on Thursday might be the thing for you. The $80 ticket includes all art supplies, one joint and one drink.
Two Memorial Day ceremonies will be held in Vallejo Monday.
The first will begin at 9 a.m at the Mare Island Cemetery. National Cemetery Administration Director for the Mare Island Naval Cemetery Ashaley Jackson will be the keynote speaker.
The second will take place at 11 a.m. at the Vallejo Warriors' Memorial in Martin Luther King Jr. Park behind City Hall. The keynote speaker, state Deputy Secretary for Women Veterans Affairs Mayumi Kimura, leads the state's mission to serve and honor California's more than 150,000 women veterans and their families by connecting them with earned benefits through education, advocacy, and direct services.
And over in Benicia on Sunday afternoon, the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus will perform Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana paired with Vivaldi’s Gloria and excerpts from The Four Seasons. Special guests include the Areté Singers, Golden Gate Boys Choir, San Francisco Boys Chorus, and Voena Children’s Choir.
