VALLEJO — Maker Faire will be back for its third annual event at the Mare Island Promenade this weekend. The family friendly event celebrates the DIY spirit of innovation with hands-on workshops, robotics, crafts, 3D printing, and live demos and talks from leading tech and creative pioneers. The event will open on Friday with Field Trip Day, with lower ticket prices and bigger discounts for student groups.
The “Eastern Sierra Wild Horses” event scheduled at Riverbank on Saturday evening has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. A new date will be announced. Roots and Journeys: Traces of our Culture is a new exhibit celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month at the Vallejo Museum. A community reception will be held on Friday evening, with guest curator and founder of Moon Azteca dance school Yajaira Rubio Machado.
Poetry by the Bay will host their monthly open mic on Thursday night in the north wing of the Mira Theatre. Enjoy live spoken word poetry from Bay Area poets, or sign up to read your own. Poetry by the Bay does not control what others may share, so be aware that adult content may be discussed.
Mare Island Heritage Trust and Dolphin Charters will host a Napa River cruise aboard the River Dolphin on Saturday afternoon with tour guide Myrna Hayes. The two and a half hour tour will depart from the Vallejo Marina K dock at 3:30 p.m. Light snacks and supper with refreshments and wine will be served. Advance ticket purchase required.
Vallejo Sister City Association & Commission will celebrate 57 years of friendship with Vallejo’s sister city Akashi, Japan, at their 19th annual International Dinner, Dance and Auction on Saturday evening at the Filipino Community Center. Wear your best cultural attire and enjoy regional dishes from Vallejo’s seven sister cities, with live entertainment, cultural performances, and an auction.
Of course there’s always live music in Vallejo. On Wednesday evening the Rowland & Tumblin band will play blues at the Empress Marquee Club, and singer/songwriter S.R. Laws will perform at the Coal Shed Brewery on Friday evening.
Live music on Saturday begins at the Community Coffee Tasting event at Moschetti Coffee Roasters with live music by singer/songwriter Joslay Jose, then Got the Soul band will play a midday show at Vino Godfather, and the Bryan Girard Jazz Trio will play a dinnertime show at Manny’s Steakhouse on the Vallejo waterfront.
Then on Sunday, celebrated R&B and jazz vocalist, Nzuri Soul will take the stage at for a midday show at Vino Godfather

Green Screen Portraits
Come join the JFK Library and check out the Makery's green screen and learn how they work. There will be a green screen portrait station set-up for people to test out and leave with a fun picture. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

CreativiTea and Craft Club Every Tuesday
Vallejo CreativiTea Club (AKA Doodle & Draw) is now every Tuesday night from 6-8, though we frequently stay later. Open to all ages and skill levels.Get together with your downtown arts community to work side by side on art projects while sipping tea and listening to music. Bring a project you're working on, or get inspired to start something fresh. We will have some art supplies available.
