VALLEJO — Begin your 2nd Friday Art Walk tour in downtown Vallejo with dinner at Bambino’s to catch Vallejo’s own Earl "The Pearl" Stevens, also known as E-40’s dad, playing funky blues guitar.
Then as Art Walk winds down, head over to the 4th Corner Speakeasy at the Red Men's Hall to hear the female led alt-punk band The Lipsmackers, whose original songs range from angry and angsty to funny and silly. The show will open with the Dream Tellers power trio playing favorite classic rock tunes and their own retro-flavored originals.
Also during Art Walk, you can catch a gallery show held over from last week’s Vallejo Open Studios. The Vallejo Museum will host the Little Art Show’s “Reframed,” with 18 of the shows’ 36 artists present for a reception, and an artist talk at 6 p.m. “Refremed” focuses on inclusivity and celebrates diversity. The show will also be open during museum hours through Nov. 23.
Or on Friday night, you can head over to the Redwood Empire Whiskey Bar on Mare Island to see the Hidden Fantasea drag show, which claims to be the first-ever trans active duty and veteran–run production. This groundbreaking show celebrates resilience, pride, and empowerment through the artistry of drag and performance. Debuting during Veterans Week, this production honors service members who’ve not only served their country but continue to serve authenticity, courage, and visibility for the trans community.
Then on Saturday starting at 4 p.m., attend the Miss Vallejo/Tri-City and Miss Napa County Competition at the Empress Theatre, where Miss Vallejo/Tri-City will be crowned to represent Vallejo, American Canyon, Fairfield and Benicia in the Miss California pageant next year. Miss Napa County & Miss Vallejo/Tri-City's Teen will also be crowned at this event.
Baseball fans may enjoy the free CC Sabathia Recognition event on Sunday at Vallejo High School’s Corbus Field, where the Vallejo native, philanthropist and Hall of Famer will be presented with a proclamation, honorary street renaming, and a key to the city. The gates will open at 11 a.m. for children’s activities, and the official ceremony will begin at 1 p.m.
Update: This event has been canceled. Or on Sunday afternoon, attend a free performance by the Travis Air Force Brass Band at the Empress Theatre for a high class performance of funk, jazz, pop and patriotic favorites. The concert will showcase brass spins on popular music from the 70s to present day.
If you’re concerned about how Vallejo will handle pending sea level rise, attend the Solano Bayshore Resiliency Project community workshop on Thursday evening at the Joseph Room in the John F. November LGBTQ+ Book Club: Orlando by Virginia Woolf
The long-lived protagonist of Orlando begins as a passionate teenage aristocrat, whose days are spent in rowdy revelry at the colorful Tudor court of Queen Elizabeth and his nights in writing earnest poetry. A favorite of the elderly queen, he falls in love with and is jilted by a wayward Russian princess. Two kings later, now in his thirties, Orlando is sent to serve as ambassador to Constantinople, where he awakens one day to find himself in the body of a woman. The Lady Orlando takes this circumstance in stride. She returns to England, engages in love affairs with both men and women, consorts with the famous poets of each age, finds happiness with a gender-nonconforming husband, and at last achieves publication of her own epic poem in the year 1928. A playful and exuberant romp through history, Orlando is Woolf’s most lighthearted and unusual novel.

Before you go...
It’s expensive to produce the kind of high-quality journalism we do at the Vallejo Sun. And we rely on reader support so we can keep publishing.
If you enjoy our regular beat reporting, in-depth investigations, and deep-dive podcast episodes, chip in so we can keep doing this work and bringing you the journalism you rely on.
