VALLEJO — On Friday, Bay Area Stage Productions will open a comic interpretation of “The 39 Steps,” a fast-paced whodunit based on John Buchan's 1915 novel and the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film.
The actors will perform numerous roles, ranging from overbearing matrons to menacing double agents. There will be performances on Friday and Saturday evenings and matinées on Sunday.
On Saturday afternoon, Vallejo Shakespeare in the Park will perform “Songs and Sonnets,” a musical fundraiser for the troupe at the Vallejo Museum. Proceeds from the show will help support the summertime production of free Shakespeare plays in outdoor settings around the San Francisco Bay Area.
This year’s offering is “As you Like It” which will open in Hanns Park in Vallejo in late July. “Songs and Sonnets” will feature the songs “Oh, Mistress Mine,” “Twelfth Night,” “As You Like It,” and modern renditions from Hamlet, as well as the sonnet “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” and other favorites.
Personal Space gallery will hold a reception to open a new art show on Sunday afternoon with the theme “A Form to Accommodate the Mess,” based on writer Samuel Beckett’s assertion that the artist’s task is to find a form to accommodate the mess of modern life.
The curated exhibition features the work of artists who distinctly articulate the mess of the world, the mess in our minds and the messiness of day-to-day existence through a diverse range of media. The show will be on display on Sunday afternoons through July 13.
