VALLEJO — Two hip-hop shows are coming to Vallejo this weekend.
Summer Daze presented by Thou Wow Studios and the Free Music Collective will take place at Carnalito’s Customs on Saturday night, with live multi-genre, pop, alternative, hip-hop, R&B and Latin music featuring Jay De La Cruz, K C, AyeJay, Brenda Tapia, Geraa, Suico Suave, and more.
Then get a dose of the Bay Area in its rawest form at the 707 Summer Jam at Club 220: The Alley, beginning on Sunday afternoon. The show will be headlined by DLO, Stunnaman02, RBL Posse and Goldie from the Federation, plus dozens more.
Plenty of other music will be happening too. Papa Joe & The New Deal will cover familiar soul, R&B, reggae, old school funk and Latin rock from the 60s through the present at Vino Godfather on Saturday afternoon.
Or prog rock fans may enjoy the Rush tribute band R50 at the Empress Theatre on Saturday night.
Steff Burns and Friends have been so popular that Vino Godfather is booking them twice this summer. The first show will be this Sunday afternoon, then the band will return to Vino Godfather on Aug. 24. Burns is a renowned guitarist who has toured, recorded or jammed onstage with Jesse Colin Young, Sheila E, Michael Bolton, Alice Cooper and Joe Satriani.
Vallejo also offers indie types of music that are hard to pigeonhole.
Tori Roze and Johnny Alexander, described as musical atmospheric chameleons, will play at the Mare Island Brewing Company’s Coal Shed Brewery on Friday evening.
Or you can wake to the sounds of reggae-jazz-pop-blues fusion by the Pensé Libre trio at Mochetti Coffee Roasters’ free coffee tasting on Saturday morning.
For a more indie-punk-rock fix, go see the local bands Ajar, Circle of Ruin, and Galvanize at the Townhouse Cocktail Lounge on Sunday afternoon'.
On the mellower side of music, you can catch the Bryan Girard Jazz Trio at a dinnertime show on Saturday at Manny’s Steakhouse, or on Sunday afternoon at The Inn at Benicia Bay.
Then on Monday night, The Townhouse Ramblers will host an acoustic Evening of Americana, folk and blues at the Townhouse Cocktail Lounge.
“The Importance of Being Earnest” play by Oscar Wild opens on Thursday night at the Vallejo Museum. This play, celebrated for its wit and repartee, parodies contemporary dramatic norms and gently satirises late Victorian manners. Presented by On The Fringe Visual and Performing Arts, the play will be shown Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings through Aug 2.
For families, the kids will enjoy Bite Night Thursday at Children's Wonderland Park. With DJ music and a rotating lineup of delicious food trucks every other week, and brews available for the grownups and lawn games for the kids. Food trucks, brews, DJ and lawn games.
Or head over to Wilson Park on Thursday evening to watch the Vallejo Seaweed baseball team battle the Martinez Sturgeons.
For a fun partytime on Saturday night, head over to the Red Men’s Hall on Georgia Street, where they’ll celebrate the centennial anniversary of the building of the hall. This is a free event with DJ hosted dancing, light food, historic displays, antiques for sale, and a no-host bar.
If you feel like venturing a little further afield, the free Sugartown Festival in central Crockett on Sunday will have food vendors, arts and crafts, a beer and wine garden, and several live bands, headlined by the Santana tribute band Sacred Fire that includes former members of the real Santana band.
Or get into some good trouble at Benicia City Park on Thursday evening at the Good Trouble Lives On protest.
These are just some highlights of upcoming events in Vallejo. Scroll down the list below for more live music, film, recreation and community events, and be sure to check our events page for late-breaking updates, artist workshops and kids’ activities.
