Upcoming Vallejo Events — Bay Area Stage opens “The Cemetery Club”

VALLEJO — The Bay Area Stage Theatre will open Ivan Menchell’s “The Cemetery Club” on Friday night. Don’t be fooled by the title of this play – it’s a comedy about three Jewish widows in Queens, New York, who meet monthly to visit their husbands' graves. Their routine is upended when one of them begins dating a widower. The ensuing drama tests their loyalties and offers a poignant look at love, friendship and moving on.

Theater seating has been reduced to accommodate the “cemetery” in front of the stage, so reservations are highly recommended. The play will run through Aug 16 on Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m.

A new monthly poetry open mic event will debut at Moschetti Coffee Roastery on Saturday at 11 a.m. Poetry by the Cup will not just be an open mic, but a gathering place where community members of all ages, backgrounds, experiences and walks of life can come together, share their stories and celebrate the art of spoken word. The open mic will return to Moschetti’s weekly free coffee tasting event on the first Saturday of every month.

Later on Saturday, the free The Outlet Art Show & Block Party will take place at Mare Island Brewing Co. - Coal Shed Brewery from 3 to 8 p.m.

This event will feature original artwork created by first responders, live music, food trucks, resource tents and vendors, interactive art experiences, dedicated kid zones, a silent auction, raffles, and craft beer, wine and cocktails. The event is a creation of the First Responders Outlet, a nonprofit founded by firefighters from the Richmond Fire Department to use art as a healthy outlet to process the trauma that first responders are regularly exposed to. Through creativity, they help raise awareness around the unseen challenges they face while offering a constructive way to carry the weight of the job.

Several more community-oriented events will take place this week.

If you are interested in the future of the Solano County Fair, attend the Community Listening Session there on Wednesday evening for an open dialogue  with the Solano County Fair Association leadership.

Do you ever worry about the security of your personal data? Then check out Practical Cybersecurity with Nicholas Weaver at Autonomous Gallery on Thursday evening. The first half of this talk will cover the defenses everyone needs against the crooks and criminals that stalk our everyday lives. The second will discuss the technologies and legal frameworks that may affect someone who participates in constitutionally protected, but nonetheless investigated behavior.

Then on Saturday afternoon, The Right to Thrive: Tenant-Led Housing Justice in Vallejo at the Vallejo Museum will outline why local tenant protections are urgently needed and how community-led solutions can strengthen Vallejo’s housing landscape. This event will be co-hosted by Vallejo Housing Justice Coalition, Supervisor Cassandra James, End Poverty in California, Public Advocates, and Urban Habitat.

Northstar Studios will start National Wellness Month with the Bay Area Creatives fundraiser on Saturday night. Expect an intimate atmosphere filled with live performances, visual art, genuine conversations, and people who love creating. Your ticket will help support National Wellness Month initiatives while creating more opportunities for local artists and creatives to showcase their work.

On Monday evening, you can choose between two community facing events that both start at 6 p.m.

The Vallejo Police Department will host a Community Town Hall Meeting at Griffin Academy regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 20, 2026. The purpose of this Town Hall meeting is to provide information regarding the incident, explain the investigative and review processes that follow an officer-involved shooting, and answer questions from the community. 

And a Grant School Community Meeting will be held at Emmanuel Temple Apostolic Church to give an update about the former Grant School property. Participants are requested to review the new Vallejo City Unified School District web page with detailed information about the property before the meeting.

The Cemetery Club

Don’t be fooled by the title of this play – it’s a comedy! Ivan Menchell’s The Cemetery Club is a bittersweet comedy about three Jewish widows in Queens, New York, who meet monthly to visit their husbands' graves. Their routine is upended when one of them begins dating a widower, who, they incidentally, meet at the cemetery. The ensuing drama tests their loyalties, offering a poignant look at love, friendship and moving on.

Community Town Hall Meeting

The Vallejo Police Department invites community members to attend a Community Town Hall Meeting regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 20, 2026.

The purpose of this Town Hall meeting is to provide information regarding the incident, explain the investigative and review processes that follow an officer-involved shooting, and answer questions from the community.

Because the investigations are ongoing, some questions regarding investigative details may not be answered at this time. The meeting will focus on the known facts, the investigative process, and the Vallejo Police Department's review procedures.

Monday Jazz Jam

Bring your instrument, bring your friends and settle in for a night of live jazz at the Empress Marquee Club. First Christian Church (FCC) of Vallejo extends a warm invitation to attend a free Community Picnic. The evening promises a vibrant gathering filled with fellowship, food, ice cream, music, and fun.
