VALLEJO — Vallejo’s annual Cinco de Mayo celebration will merge with the Vallejo Art Walk this Friday evening with performances by ballet folklorico groups, dance troupe Los Diablos Oaxaqueños del Valle, and the musical duo Sobre Cuerdas.
Art vendors will line the streets, and shops and showrooms along Virginia and Georgia streets will be open late. Impromptu musical performances are likely in the Georgia Street breezeway and on the street in front of Vintage Vagabond.
Enjoy free wine tastings courtesy of Vallejo Cellars while browsing works by regional and local artists at Temple Arts Gallery and the new Solano County Arts Council gallery.
If you’d like to stay out late, head over to the official Art Walk After Party at IntegriTea and groove to jazz by the David El 3-Oh! and the psychedelic sounds of Air Lift Underground. Or head over to the Odd Fellows Hall to dance to a blend of Latin, funk and R&B by the Barrio Funk Band.
Upcoming Mother's Day events begin on Saturday with the “Swing Into Spring” Mother’s Day brunch and fundraiser at Dance Unlimited. This festive event promises jazzy blues and Great Gatsby vibes, complete with live music, games, face painting, card making, cookie decorating, a photo booth, and a delicious breakfast spread. All proceeds will fund Vallejo Project’s programming to provide housing, education, workforce training, and wellness support for underserved youth.
Then on Saturday afternoon at the Vallejo Museum, local author Brendan Riley will speak about his mother, Marjorie Riley, columnist and author of “The Wife of Riley” Volumes 1 and 2, recount his experience growing up in Vallejo, and field your questions about other topics, including his own writing.
On Sunday, treat someone special to the Breakfast at Tiffany's Mother's Day Brunch at the Empress Lounge. Live music by acclaimed jazz vocalist Jamie Davis and pianist Mike Greensill will enhance the ambiance.
The Mother's Day Sip & Paint event at Vino Godfather’s outdoor garden on Sunday afternoon comes with the added bonus of music by Ronstadt Revolution, a Linda Ronstadt cover band, playing live in the adjacent yard. Lunch will be catered by Lasagna con Amore.
Also on Mare Island on Sunday afternoon, Mare Island Art Studios will celebrate Mother’s Day with a Spring Art Show and Artist Reception with snacks, drinks, live music by Sobre Cuerdas, and lots of beautiful art to enjoy. Admission to this family friendly art exhibition is free.
