VALLEJO — The Grand Victorian Homes Tour of Vallejo will highlight some of the finest homes in Vallejo's Architectural Heritage District this weekend.
The tour will begin on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with a reception at Buck Kamphausen’s USA World Classic Car Museum. A variety of new homes will be on this year's self-guided tour, as well as some favorites from past years. Guests will be warmly greeted by hosts, some in period costumes, in grand homes decked out in Victorian holiday splendor. You may be treated to holiday-themed live piano music at some of the homes.
The tour will the conclude with an afterparty at Vino Godfather Winery that begins at 6 p.m. Proceeds will support the Mad Hatter Holiday Festival and Parade.
This year’s Victorian Homes Tour tour coincides with one of St. Peter's Chapel's free self-guided tours on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The chapel is home to the largest collection of Tiffany stained-glass windows in a single location, and this time of year is graced with holiday decorations. Volunteers will be on-site to share history and answer questions.
St. Peter’s Chapel will reopen on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a festive concert by the American Canyon High School Chamber Choir. This year’s performance, “A Trip Around the World for the Holidays,” takes audiences on a musical journey across continents, blending beloved holiday classics with international choral gems.
More live choral music will be held in elegant settings with two performances by the Vallejo Choral Society. The first will be on Saturday evening at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Benicia, and the second on Sunday afternoon at the Springbrook Masonic Temple in Vallejo. “Carols and Lullabies” is a festive pairing of two iconic Christmas choral collections. Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” is a shimmering, harp-infused masterpiece featuring English poems from the 15th and 16th centuries, and Conrad Susa’s “Carols & Lullabies: Christmas in the Southwest” is a colorful set of carols drawn from Spanish-speaking regions and composed as a companion piece to Britten’s work.
If you like to sing with a choir, join up with the Golden Gate Symphony for their Sing it Yourself Messiah! at the Benicia Clock Tower on Sunday afternoon. Enjoy George Frideric Handel’s most-loved work with full orchestra, chorus, soloists — and you, the audience!
Plenty of Christmas-themed events for kids will be held around Vallejo and Benicia this weekend that fit a variety of budgets.
The Greater Vallejo Recreation District will host How The Grinch CRASHED Breakfast at the Cunningham Aquatic Complex for two sessions on Saturday, the first at 9:30 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m. Enjoy a fun-filled morning with arts & crafts, a light breakfast, and a photo opportunity with the Grinch himself! Adult tickets are $8, children $10. (Santa will come to Vallejo for breakfast next Saturday, Dec. 20.)
Or on Saturday morning, bring your little ones to Alibi Bookshop for Story Time with Santa Claus. Hear Santa read some stories, and maybe he’ll even listen to a wish or two. All children will receive a special treat!
For a gourmet Santa experience, check out the Santa Holiday Tea at the Empress Marquee Club. Two sessions will be held this Saturday, at noon and at 3 p.m. Santa will return to the club next Saturday, Dec. 20 at noon. Tickets are $51.50 per person, or reserve a table for three or four for a small discount.
Or drop into Benicia Fire Department Station 11 on Saturday afternoon for a free photo session with Santa. There is a suggested donation of a new and unwrapped toy for the department’s toy drive. There will also be a private photo session for sensory sensitive children from 2:30 to 3 p.m. No need to RSVP.
Many events that have nothing to do with the winter holidays are taking place as well.
Director and producer Cristina Arriola and the Black Box radio stars will be performing the iconic show, “The Princess Bride” at 4th Corner Speakeasy in the Red Men’s Hall on Saturday evening. The speakeasy has a full bar. General admission tickets are $25, cabaret seating with a light dinner, $60.
This is the closing weekend for Verismo Opera’s “The Capulets and the Montegues” at the Mira Theatre. And you can attend for free, thanks to the cooperative opera group’s mission to make quality opera available to all. The opera by Vincenzo Bellini tells the timeless story of Romeo and Juliet through soaring vocals and poignant harmonies. Showtimes are Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m.
Plus, opportunities to shop small and support local artists abound.
This Friday evening, artists booths will line the streets of downtown Vallejo for Art Walk. Vallejo Cellars will offer free wine tastings at City Arts Gallery, and shops and galleries will stay open late with a variety of special offerings.
Then on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Bizarre Artists Talent Society will host a "Haunting Holiday Bizarre Bazaar" during the free coffee tasting at Moschetti Coffee Roasters.
Mare Island Art Studios will open their Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, offering unique, handmade creations from approximately 20 local artists. The bazaar will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. this weekend and next.
A little further afield, Crockett will turn its downtown into a DJ-powered neighborhood marketplace on Saturday afternoon at their “Walk It Like You Shop It” event. Fourteen independent shops are teaming up, each hosting a local artist, maker, or vendor to create a special mix of music, fashion, food, art, and local retail. Pick up a map and raffle card, collect signatures from all participating merchants, and gain entry into the town-wide raffle.
This only scratches the surface of the many things to do in and around Vallejo. Scroll down the list below to find more live music, community meetings, and creative and recreational activities. Check our events page for an even more comprehensive listing of upcoming events and late-breaking updates.

Alibi Bookshop December Book Club: Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney
For the last Book Club gathering of 2025, we will be combining the Memoir and regular book club and meeting to discuss "Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk" by Kathleen Rooney. based on the real life poet and ad woman Margaret Fishback, I think it's the perfect choice to end the year! "In my reckless and undiscouraged youth," Lillian Boxfish writes, "I worked in a walnut-paneled office thirteen floors above West Thirty-Fifth Street…" She took 1930s New York by storm, working her way up writing copy for R.H. Macy's to become the highest paid advertising woman in the country. It was a job that, she says, "in some ways saved my life, and in other ways ruined it." Now it's the last night of 1984 and Lillian, 85 years old but just as sharp and savvy as ever, is on her way to a party. It's chilly enough out for her mink coat and Manhattan is grittier now--her son keeps warning her about a subway vigilante on the prowl--but the quick-tongued poetess has never been one to scare easily. On a walk that takes her over 10 miles around the city, she meets bartenders, bodega clerks, security guards, criminals, children, parents, and parents-to-be, while reviewing a life of excitement and adversity, passion and heartbreak, illuminating all the ways New York has changed--and has not. Lillian figures she might as well take her time. For now, after all, the night is still young.
