VALLEJO – Vallejo is losing a CVS pharmacy store, the latest in a string of store closures as multiple pharmacy companies shutter hundreds of stores nationwide.
CVS spokesperson Roslyn Guarino told the Vallejo Sun on Friday that the store located at 3678 Sonoma Blvd. will close on March 12. That means that all customer prescriptions will be transferred to the nearest CVS pharmacy, located at 1193 Admiral Callaghan Lane.
Guarino said that customers can always choose to fill their prescriptions at any CVS pharmacy, or the more convenient pharmacy of their choice. She said that CVS also offers several delivery options for customers and patients with eligible prescriptions, including 1-2-day delivery and on-demand delivery through CVS.com and the CVS Health app.
“Employees are being offered comparable roles within the company,” Guarino said.
“Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions,” Guarino said. “Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community.”
The news comes amid CVS store closures around the country. In its 2025 annual report, CVS announced that it would close 271 retail stores in 2025 as part of its "enterprise-wide restructuring plan intended to streamline and simplify the organization.”
This follows the closure of around 900 locations between 2022 and 2024. A spokesperson for CVS last year told Newsweek that these closures will enable the company to optimize its "existing stores and pharmacies."
The closures also come as Vallejo and many other cities have lost Walgreens stores with pharmacies, further increasing the distance between open pharmacies, particularly in rural California.
California has lost about 35 Walgreens stores, according to Newsweek. Vallejo already lost two Walgreens stores at 1050 Redwood St. and 2647 Springs Road in 2025 as the pharmacy retail company shutters branches across California.
The only Walgreens store in the Vallejo area is located at 201 American Canyon Road in American Canyon. The company said that it is unable to cover losses from several factors, including rising operating costs.
