Vallejo reaches 29 homicides in 2020

VALLEJO – With just a month left in 2020, the city of Vallejo recorded its 29th homicide of the year when a 20-year-old Sacramento man was shot and killed in north Vallejo over the weekend, the Vallejo Police Department announced on Monday.

Vallejo police said they received reports of a shooting at about 9:02 p.m. Saturday night in the 100 block of Simonton St. Arriving officers found that a shooting had taken place but no victim.

Officers later discovered that the victim had been driven to a local hospital by friends. He suffered at least one gunshot wound, later dying from his injuries at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of his family.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Det. Terry Schillinger at (707) 648-4278 or Det. Brian Murphy at (707) 648-5430.

Also on Monday, the department announced that a 21-year-old Richmond woman shot on Nov. 12, died from her wounds the following day. Police responded to reports of shots fired at about 5:36 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the 3600 block of Georgia Street.

Police received more reports regarding the shooting that the woman was located in the 100 block of Cottonwood Drive.

She was taken to a local hospital with at least one gunshot wound, later dying from her wounds. The victim’s identity is also being withheld pending notification of her family.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Scott Yates at (707) 648-4533.

It’s not known why Vallejo police waited over two weeks to announce the woman’s death.

With the homicide over the weekend, the city has experienced 29 homicides, including the fatal officer-involved shooting of Sean Monterrosa on June 2. The Vallejo Police Department, which doesn’t include the Monterrosa shooting in its official total, contends there have been 28 homicides in 2020.
